Not the recovery we’d hoped for

It’s no secret that hospitality has been going through a staffing struggle. In fact, the sector hasn’t had access to a steady, reliable, and readily available talent pool since the first lockdown in March 2020. 

Sure, it was a huge relief when Covid restrictions dropped and food and drink venues were free to operate at full capacity. But the truth is, many haven’t been able to run at the levels they’d like because they don’t have the people power to do so. A recent survey found that 45% of businesses have had to cut trading hours or capacity in order to cope, costing the industry £21bn in lost revenue.

Other research, which tracked all job listings on between 8th and 21st June, found that the hospitality sector is the UK’s fifth industry most in need of workers. Just less than half of the 11,639 vacancies advertised were for chefs, making it the most in-demand food service role, followed by waiters. This isn’t how post-pandemic recovery was supposed to go, but until things pick up, there is a solution…
